STEP #1: CHOOSE A MOVING DATE
If you have to start a new job or leave your current home by a certain date, you’ll need to choose a moving date. Keep in mind that most people move on the weekend, so if you’re moving in the city, you may find it difficult to move around. Consider a weekday move, so you don’t have to deal with so many others who are moving.
STEP #2: SCHEDULE SERVICES
If you’re going to use a moving service, call the company as soon as you have a date. This will ensure that you have the help you need.
STEP #3: GET THE SUPPLIES YOU NEED
If you aren’t having a moving company pack your belongings, you’ll need boxes and packing supplies. Start to gather boxes and purchase supplies as soon as you know when you’re going to move. It can take a while for you to pack all of your possessions, especially if you have a lot of them.
STEP #4: ASK FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO HELP
Even if you’re using a moving service, you’ll still need help cleaning up your current home. Ask people to help you and make a party out of it. Order pizzas, have drinks available, and turn up the music.
The alternative is to hire a cleaning service to come in and clean your place after everything has moved.
STEP #5: GET READY FOR THE BIG DAY
Once you set everything up, you can just wait for moving day. When doing it yourself, you’ll have to make sure you’ve had a good night sleep and drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you’ve hired a moving service, you can just supervise the move and relax.
